Dr. Roger Barker
Head of Corporate Governance, Institute of Directors
(IoD), United Kingdom.
Following
initial training as an economist, Roger spent around 13 years in various
senior roles in investment banking in the UK and Switzerland. His main
positions were those of equity strategist and chief operating officer
of research at UBS, and head of investment banking marketing at Bank
Vontobel. In 2004, Roger moved to Oxford University, where he completed
a doctorate on corporate governance, and was Stipendiary Lecturer at
Merton College, Oxford. He was also an adviser on corporate governance
to the EU Economic and Social Committee in Brussels. Roger joined the
IoD in July 2008, and is currently a member of the policy committee of
the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations (ecoDa). His forthcoming
book - Corporate Governance, Competition, and Political Parties: Explaining
Corporate Governance Change in Europe – will be published by Oxford University
Press at the end of 2009.
